While it was a short season, the Blazers took it to the court and net with strength and positive teamwork. The ten 8th graders and two 6th graders who comprised the team all grew immensely during this quick season. The Blazers learned about ball movement, the different positions on the court, how to pass, set, bump, serve, and spike. The team played great in their game with St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School, winning the first match and taking it to a game three. Although they fell by 2... Read More

Burgundy's girls on their marks before a run. Burgundy hosted seven schools and more than 150 runners for the cross country championship meet on November 1. Despite a number of injuries and sickness, Burgundy finished third, behind strong Alexandria Country Day School and Capitol Hill Day School teams. In the girls’ race two runners placed in the top 10: Caelan McCormack finished 2nd and Cassidy Calhoon finished 6th. In the boys’ race two runners placed in the top 10: Graham Haberl finished... We were happy to see many alumni back on campus for the 2017 Fall Fair! We had 62 in our annual photo, including several members of the Class of 1972, who had their own reunion the weekend of the Fair. Several alumni performed as part of the Fair's musical entertainment, and were were grateful that many alumni and and alumni parents volunteered to staff activities as well, including the Class of 2017 helping at the moon bounce! We hope to see you at next year's Fall Fair!

Alumnus Evan Kuester '04 was back on campus this week, talking to all students at the all school meeting, and then continuing the conversation with Middle School students. While at Burgundy, Evan appreciated the encouragement he got to pursue his passion -- his interest in art, and after attending TC Williams went on to the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). While at SCAD, as a class project Evan designed a three-dimensional printed hand for a classmate who was born without one, and... Read More

A 7th grader checking out a prosthetic arm Evan Kuester '04 designed. Learning how to learn. At a glance, that expression can sound either interesting or like cliched 'edu-speak.' But it is actually profound! As the recent Education Week article, "Learning How to Learn Could be a Student's Most Valuable Skill," attests, becoming a good learner can be more important than native intelligence or excellence in test-taking. Information literacy, as in discerning useful information, understanding... Read More

Just before the school year began, Burgundy received a generous donation online to our Annual Giving Fund. The donor was not listed in our records so I contacted her about her connection to Burgundy and she shared this story: My mother, Wilma, attended Burgundy many years ago. In fact, you may not have been an official school when she attended. It would have been around 1945/46, under the name Wilma Bailey. If it helps, her parents were William and Dorothy Bailey. My mom struggled all her life... Read More

The Kindergarten Frogs class had a special guest last week — author Dr. Lesley Francis visited to share her own work and that of her grandfather, famous poet Robert Frost. Dr. Francis talked to the students about common elements of poetry, including rhythm and rhyme, and the students were quick to share examples of rhyming words they know. They enjoyed hearing some familiar nursery rhymes from Mother Goose as well as several of Robert Frost’s outdoors-focused poems including “The Last Word of... Read More
