Alumna Visits 8th Grade Class

Friday, April 14, 2017

Ashley Ware Jenkins '98

On Monday we had a special visit from alumna Ashley Ware Jenkins ’98. Ashley is a working actor, and last year she joined the cast of The Lion King—first with the touring production and then as part of the Broadway cast! When it was announced that this year’s 8th grade musical would be The Lion King Jr., former teacher and 8th grade parent Henry Edwards and alumni coordinator Michele McCabe worked together to arrange Ashley’s visit.

Ashley and her mother, Tari Thompson, came to campus Monday. Ashley spoke to the 8th graders during their advisory time. Ashley and Tari also visited with several Burgundy faculty members who have been teaching since Ashley’s time at the school: Doug Fishman, Jerry Jirgl, Erin Kelly, and Charlene Pritzker all taught Ashley and are still teaching at Burgundy now!

After graduating from Burgundy, Ashley attended Duke Ellington School of the Arts in DC and learned to sing classically. Her acting training came after college, and she began working consistently as an actor and performer. Ashley said the night of her Broadway debut was the highlight of her life so far. It was a milestone achievement for her. Next up is acting on TV, and she also wants to be known as a playwright in the future. She felt it was an honor to be back on campus and share a bit of her craft and experience with our students.
